Review: Belle Epoque

Belle Epoque
Belle Epoque by Elizabeth Ross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maude has run off from the poverty stricken countryside and from living under her father thumb to live in Paris. She was expecting to live a life of fun and excitement, glamour and extravagance. However she is finding it hard to earn a pittance and is living in a hovel.

One day she applies for a job and to her surprise is offered the position on the spot. A few moments later she is ushered into another room with the other workers and what she witnesses comes as a huge surprise. The job is to be a “Belle Epoque” which is described as being the paid plain or ugly companion of a wealthy society girl or woman whose position is intended to enhance the natural beauty of the girl or woman. Maude is horrified by the description of the position but inevitably decides to take it on.

However one strange caveat of Maudes first position is to act as just a friend to her companion and never mention that she is a Bell Epoque as she has been hired by the clients mother. Through this Muade is faced with many difficulties and hurdles to cross from her client, the clients mother and other family members and the employers at the Bell Epoque agency.

Comments: Beautiful imagery and description of fashion, society and Paris. Highly researched and descriptive with historic references and great detail surrounding the life of a Belle Epouque .

Review: Model Misfit

Model Misfit
Model Misfit by Holly Smale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firstly I would like to take a moment to thank the author Holly Smale for the beautiful signed paperback copy and cute geek girl pins I received from her via a first reads giveaway.

In the follow-up to Geek Girl the reader is re-introduced to Ms. Harriet Manners and the rather barmy world she resides in. Things are changing rapidly for Harriet at home and in school, her best friend isn’t going to be around for the summer and worst of all her gorgeous boyfriend dumped her unceremoniously. So when given the opportunity to take on another modelling job that will send her gallivanting around yet another foreign country while living with other models, Harriet jumps at the chance. After finagling the details with her father Harriet is on her way to Japan.

However if her first trip abroad and photo shoot were anything to go by, things weren’t going to be simple. However all of the trouble that brews for Harriet may be more closer to home than she could have imagined.

Warner Bros. take out new Harry Potter trademarks – RTÉ Ten.

Trademarks taken out by Warner Brothers on 2 other Harry Potter related texts, The Tales of Beedle the Bard & Quidditch through the ages. Does this mean that there are already plans in the work for movie adaptations? Or is this just Warner Brothers wanting to play it safe for the future as plans have been announced to create a movie series based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?

Either way this is a verrrrrry interesting development.

‘The One’ by Keira Cass Cover Reveal

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! Today the cover for The One, the Third installment in The Selection series by Kiera Cass was revealed. And Holy Schmoly is that a wedding dress my eyes can see??

Maxon or Aspen??? Aspen? Maxon? Prince? Soldier?

Maybe she picks neither and just happens to wear a white dress to some random royal selection engagement.

The possibilities are endless.

This cover is such a tease.

What are you doing to us?

I can’t deal.

My feels are hurting.

Review: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Must really read this considering that the Queen herself JKR is devising a screenplay for a movie series based around the book.
